If a documentable extenuating circumstance (unforeseen and unavoidable that prevents a student from attending their course(s) for the term), exceptions to the withdrawal and tuition refund deadlines may be granted. To be considered for an exception to these policies, the student must drop or withdraw from all course(s) (an exception may be granted if supporting documentation is provided with the written request). To drop or withdraw from course(s), please contact Records and Registration at records@walshcollege.edu. Students receiving federal financial aid should refer to the section entitled “Tuition Refund Policy Affecting Financial Aid Recipients” in the Student Handbook. The last day to withdraw from courses is during the ninth week of the term (students should refer to the academic calendar each term for drop and withdraw dates).
Walsh does not automatically drop students from classes for non-payment or non-attendance.
Students are responsible for tuition and fees when dropping or withdrawing beyond the 100% refund period. Students must still make payments in full and on time when submitting a request for a late withdrawal or refund.
Completed courses are not eligible for a late withdrawal or refund. Also, if coursework is continued after the dates of the circumstance, the late withdrawal or refund may not be eligible. If the dates of the circumstance do not coincide with the term and coursework, the late withdrawal or refund may also not be eligible.
Requests for exceptions to the withdrawal or refund policy must be directed in writing to the Business Office and must be accompanied by a signed Late Withdrawal or Refund Request form available in the Student Portal. Any documentation supporting the request should be included and is encouraged. Original documents must be provided upon request if submitted electronically. Only signed and dated requests with complete documentation will be accepted.
Requests must be submitted within four weeks after the start of the subsequent term (refer to the Academic Calendar for dates). Late requests will not be reviewed. Requests will be reviewed by the Late Withdrawal or Refund Committee and a response will be sent in writing within 30 days. The decision of the Late Withdrawal or Refund Committee is final.
If the Committee determines that the request meets the criteria for a tuition refund exception, a 100 percent credit of the tuition and course fee charges will be applied to the student's account. International fees and student support fees are non-refundable unless all enrolled courses are approved for a refund by the Committee. If the courses were withdrawn, they will be changed to a drop and will not appear on the student’s transcript.
If the Committee determines the request does not qualify for a tuition refund exception and the withdrawal period has passed, a late withdrawal will be considered. If granted, a grade of “W” (withdrawal) will appear on the student’s transcript. The student will be responsible for all tuition and fees. If approved, it will be a one-time exception and all future requests will be denied. Note that a student is only allowed two withdrawals per course.
